Attended Events - Chronic Camping Retardation

Date: May 19-22, 2000
Venue: Rock Point Park, Ontario
Attendees: slovo, andr3w, Loncakes, nevesis, Anessa, and our #TOraves friends moorv and plastik

Welcome to another Retardation. Brought to you in part by our friends from #TOraves who were kind enough to invite us to come along, even though it was because the original friends they invited ditched them ;) It's all good.

Well, what stories are there to tell of? It took us a while to actually get to the camp site because we are a highly disorganized bunch. We did get there eventually, which is when the adventures began, like the lighting-the-lanterns adventure. Many of us tried to get the damn lanterns light, over and over, but were unsuccessful. Considering it was already around midnight, dark, cold and clammy, we just got our tents and gear set up and went to bed. Though I think we had a "walk" first, I forget. It wasn't until the following day that plastik miraculously made the instructions work. They were in front of our faces the whole time, we just didn't follow them properly! :P The lighting-the-lanterns adventure finally came to it's conclusion.

Other than that, nothing much really sticks out in my mind. The weather didn't co-operate to my liking until Sunday, and even still it wasn't really nice enough to tan or go swimming or any of that other fun camping kind of stuff. Even with that in mind, I still had a good time being out in fresh air, chillin' with my friends, lounging and relaxing like the lazy person I am, sleeping a lot, and going for many "walks", especially the nightly in-tent walks ;)

Well where to start.. We didn’t arrive till just after midnight on Friday. Which was a little late for checking out our site and getting set up in the dark. When we found our site (#113) it was a little wet.. wait a little wet is an understatement, it was a swamp. Our fire pit was a little lake in the middle:P But we seemed to have managed. Everyone got their tents set up. While Andrew sat and tried to light the not so easi-lite lamp! It took him an hour before I think he gave up. I think Chris finally got it going easily sometime the next day. Well after everyone was settled the fun started but without Scott he passed out in his tent and didn’t join the fun in ours. We all jumped in for a walk! That basically concluded our Friday evening of fun after everyone was ready to pass out.

Saturday: Well the weather was still not the best and everything was still muddy. But we made the best of it. We even miraculously got a fire going in the fire pit :) (see the pics!) Saturday was a pretty chillaxing time. Many nice long walks and everyone just hanging around relaxing basically what the weekend was all about. We all hoped for some nice whether to come along but no such luck all day. Anessa and Scott decided to take off they couldn’t bare roughing it out in the mud. But the rest of us hung in there and made the best out of the night. This night was quite fun. We had a nice fire going everyone seemed to be having a good time walking around and partying it up in spite of the weather.

Sunday: Well basically the same as Saturday. Chilling and going on nice walks on the beach :) The weather cleared up by the middle of the day and it was very nice to see some sunshine for a change. I think it put all of us in a slightly better mood to see some sun.

Monday: We packed up. Somehow we managed to fit everything in the car.. hehe

Overall I think everyone had a pretty decent time considering the conditions and we’d all be willing to do it again. Hopefully with some better weather :)
